A cable project initiated by American Electric Power Company (AEP) for development, manufacture and installation of a superconducting cable system has led to the establishment of a joint venture between NKT Cables and the American cable manufacturer, Southwire Company.
With the joint venture partnership named ULTERATM, NKT Cables and Southwire expand their technological collaboration under way since 1998 targeted at developing the superconductor technology to application in the electricity grid.
The positive experience from this partnership is continued in ULTERATM which coordinates the expertise of 25 employees from both companies. The personnel will be domiciled both in Copenhagen and Carollton, Georgia, USA. The collaboration with the Technical University of Denmark and with Oak Ridge National Laboratory, both institutions which have likewise been involved in the respective development projects, will also be continued.
