Bulging order books at NKT FlexiblesPublished 3 October 2006
In seven years, NKT Flexibles has come from almost nowhere to become a major player in the market for flexible pipe systems. The company is now preparing for even greater challenges and is taking on 50 new people.
The hunt for oil and gas below the sea bed has seldom been more intense than right now. And this has led to bulging order books for one of the major Danish suppliers to the oil industry, NKT Flexibles. The company’s core product is flexible pipe systems, which are typically used to connect production wells on the sea bed to production platforms on the surface.
The demand for flexible pipe systems has strongly increased, particularly with the spread of floating production platforms. These platforms were developed to facilitate oil exploration at greater and greater distances from land and in deeper and deeper waters - ie. locations where conventional fixed platforms cannot operate. Floating platforms are really like huge ships, and a need therefore arose for pipes that can handle the stresses that occur when the platforms are subjected to wave movements and sea currents.
