nkt cables in the Czech Republic

nkt cables’ made its first investment in the Czech Republic in 1999 when it acquired the German company Felten & Guillaume Kabelwerke GmbH. It in turn held 56% of the Czech firm Kablo Kladno.

Major investments were made over a number of years in Kablo Kladno. The aim was to expand and modernise the company’s production facilities. The Danish government’s investment fund for central and eastern Europe (IØ) was a co-owner at the time. In 2006 nkt cables took full ownership of the company, which is now called nkt cables s.r.o. It is 30 minutes’ west of Prague, and makes low  voltage cables (1 kV). Production is efficient and well organised.

nkt cables’ latest investment in the country was at the start of 2007 when the authorities gave final approval for the acquisition of Kablo Elektro, which employs 900 people. It has two production sites - Vrchlabi in the north-east, where automotive cabling is produced; and Velké Meziříčí in the south-east, which makes low and medium-voltage cables.

The three plants can trace their proud histories back several generations.
