Chinese trains to run on NKT wiresPublished 16 July 2007
Against the background of a 45 mEUR (330 mDKK) contract with the Ministry of Railways (MOR) covering contact wires and cable conductors for catenary systems, a production company is to be set up in China in order also to meet the requirement of an expected huge demand in the next 10 years.
The contract partners were chosen by MOR on the basis of the specialist expertise possessed by both parties. The new company will be owned equally by nkt cables and China’s Daqo Group Ltd.
The economic growth in China has resulted in an urgent need for further development of the country’s efficient rail infrastructure. The plans of the authorities to “reduce” the huge distances within China by high-speed rail links have now created the foundation for the setting up of a factory solely for manufacturing catenary products for the Chinese rail network. The factory will be sited in Nanjing some hundred kilometres west of Shanghai.
