Cable factory focused on high tech high voltagePublished 01.07.2008
The world needs “renewable energy”. Electricity companies all over the world are therefore engaged in expanding and improving the transmission and distribution systems that must deliver renewable and cleaner energy to consumers.
Electricity reaches consumers by cables - starting with the types of cable that take it from the point of production (power stations and wind farms) to the distribution system. The demand for high voltage cables is therefore expected to grow enormously in the years ahead. For nkt cables, as a long-standing supplier of cable products, it is now that the company will cement its position as one of the leading players in the high voltage cable market and in the area of medium and high voltage submarine cables.
nkt cables has responded to the challenge by translating strategic plans into practical action. The company is now busy building brand new facilities for its future manufacture of high and medium voltage cables and associated products to meet the growing need for cable systems etc. that promote sustainable energy and more efficient use of transmission and distribution networks worldwide.
The foundation stone for nkt cables’ new high voltage factory in Cologne was laid on 21 June 2008. The event took place at a ceremony held at the site of nkt cables’ future factory - an 84,000 m2 area in Cologne that is part of a business park owned by the Bayer industrial group. The site will give nkt cables direct access to dock loading facilities on the Rhine.
