Around 350 employees of nkt cables were present at the laying of the foundation stone for their new workplace. The event was accompanied by all the traditional customs and formalities during which various symbolic objects - including a list of the names and the signatures of the factory personnel - were sealed into the building’s foundations.

The event was hosted by Detlev Waimann, CEO of nkt cables GmbH. He outlined the background to the occasion, starting with the history of the German company F&G, its integration with Denmark’s nkt cables in 1999 - and the subsequent establishment of the Cologne company as the high voltage centre of excellence for the then newly created nkt cables Group.

Detlev Waimann also described the strategic deliberations that took place in 2006 and 2007 and which led to the decision to abandon the company’s long-standing home in Cologne’s inner city in favour of modern new facilities.
