KOHERAS white light source in groundbreaking measuring equipment Søren Isaksen believes that the considerable interest at Photonics West is rooted in the ability of NKT Photonics to design its products with industrial applications in mind.

Take KOHERAS for example. At its booth the company presented an exciting new product in the form of a widely tunable source combined with a spectrum analyser capable of measuring intensities for all colours. Developed in partnership with a market leader in telecommunications testing equipment, this is the first and only spectrum analyser of its type to have been put into production anywhere in the world.
The spectrum analyser uses a broad-spectrum white light laser from KOHERAS covering a spectrum from 500 nm to 2400 nm. KOHERAS’ laser system is a good example of industrial design that enables the company’s advanced products to enter service straight away.
“We developed the light source and our partner had the detector and the software. It is fantastic that this collaboration has led to a groundbreaking innovation - we can receive no finer reference and recommendation. But we have only scratched the surface of the potential applications offered by this platform,” says Søren Isaksen.
