Cleaning the marble floors of MeccaPublished 25.01.2008
Inevitably, wherever large numbers of people are gathered together there is a need for cleaning. Mecca, the Holy City of Saudi Arabia, which each year in December is visited by as many as two million pilgrims a day, is no exception.
This is where Nilfisk-Advance’s RS1400 cleaner, which is also marketed under its American name, Captor, comes into the picture. For the past few years a number of Captors ordered back in 2005 have played a vital part in keeping the floors of Mecca clean and tidy for the multitude of visiting pilgrims.
Torben Vadgaard, Nilfisk-Advance Area Manager, International Markets, takes up the story:
“Our Captors have faced a tough challenge. After operating continuously during Ramadan (from 13 September to 12 October), they literally worked non-stop during the pilgrimage in December when the need to remove wet and dry dust, sand and refuse after the crowds of people is never-ending. But they succeeded in keeping the marble floors of the Holy City neat and clean - thereby helping to maintain the heightened hygiene standards now required,” says Torben Vadgaard. “It is only in recent years that manual floor-cleaning has been replaced by combi-cleaners capable of sweeping, washing and drying in a single operation - precisely with a view to raising hygiene standards and ensuring uniform cleaning.”
