Equipment for Military Use

NKT considers the military as being a legitimate part of a civilized society. Certain of NKT’s companies provide technologies and products that can be used for military purposes as well as civil purposes. We in NKT are open to supplying such technologies and products to the military sector on a commercial basis, provided such activities are carried out in line with our policies as described herein.

NKT will not intentionally supply products and technology for military purposes if the following policies are not fully complied with:

  • Such activities must comply with national, regional and international law (eg. EU 1334/2000, EU 2000/401/FUSP and Wasenaar Convention) applicable to the NKT company in question;
  • Such activities must as a minimum standard comply with Danish law (Krigsmaterielloven (War Equipment Act)) even if such legislation is not directly applicable to the NKT company in question;
  • Such activities do not involve development or supply of equipment where the activation/ignition is triggered by an uncontrolled action (eg. mines, etc. This is to avoid being involved in supply of weapons that unintentionally can hurt civil population

Procedures
In order to safeguard the goodwill of NKT and the moral integrity of the company, the management and the employees, the following procedures shall govern the supply of technology and products for military purposes:

  • Employees potentially involved in development or supply of military equipment must have local management’s approval of such engagements;
  • If an employee for whatever reason does not wish to be involved in such activities, such employer shall be transferred to non-military activities;
  • Local management must assure that such activities are in accordance with local as well as Danish laws and that such activities do not involve development or supply of equipment where the activation/ignition is triggered by an uncontrolled action;
  • Local management shall seek guidance and approval from NKT Group Management and legal department, if uncertain as to applicable rules;
  • The Confederation of Danish Industry (“Dansk Industri”) may be involved if there is a need for guidance as to rules under Danish law.
