Principles for NKT’s Conduct

NKT supports the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights and works to uphold the 10 principles stated in the UN Global Compact.

It is the responsibility of our business leaders to draw up written policies which reflect the fundamental principles of NKT and develop procedures which are to be followed at all levels within the organisation. These policies and procedures are to be accessible to all employees.

NKT aspires to be a responsible employer, which complies not only with legislation and collective bargaining agreements, but also ensures “best practice” towards customers and other business associates.

The management of the NKT Group of companies should ensure that employees comply with legislation and regulations.

As NKT companies operate in countries with diverse traditions and practices, principles should be followed locally which reflect local legislation and regional customs while still consistent with the fundamental principles of NKT.

NKT aspires to be a good employer which provides employees with realistic opportunities to develop their professional competences and personal skills to the benefit of the business while simultaneously maintaining or increasing their value in the labour market.

NKT aspires to ensure proper employment terms for its employees including appropriate health and safety standards.

Employees should be offered appropriate wages in accordance with local agreements and regulations, as well as relevant further training opportunities. Decisions regarding appointments, dismissals and promotions should be based solely on an assessment of qualifications. NKT respects the right of association and the right to collective bargaining negotiations. No discrimination on the grounds of gender, race, skin colour, beliefs, political convictions, sexual orientation or national, social or ethnic origins, age or disability is permitted.

NKT respects the private life of its employees and customers and protects any relevant data accordingly.

The conventions relating to forced and child labour as stated by the International Labour Organisation (ILO) are respected wherever the NKT Group operates.

The relationship between management and employees should be characterised by an open and trusting dialogue based on mutual respect.

The relationship between management and employees should be based on the desire to increase the growth and success of the business.

Regardless of local practices, any form of corruption, personal remuneration, kickbacks or bribery between employees and customers, suppliers or civil servants is strictly prohibited. It is unacceptable to receive gifts or other items from business connections unless it is a local custom and the gift/item is of modest value.

NKT does not agree price fixing, sales quotas or to share the market with competitors. NKT will never join a cartel of tender bidders or exchange tender information with competitors.
